Mulch Installation
Mulch installation is important for a healthy and beautiful, low maintenance garden. In fact, the function of mulch is to retain moisture whereby reducing evaporation. As a result, during dry periods plants conserve water. Likewise, mulch installation acts as an insulating layer, which protects plant roots from extreme temperatures.
A good mulch will reduce weed growth by blocking sunlight. So that, the need for weed killers and manual weeding is greatly reduced. For this reason, mulch installation saves time, effort and promotes a low maintenance garden. Furthermore, wood mulch slowly decomposes and adds valuable nutrients to the soil. What’s more, the increased rigidity improves the soil’s structure and fertility.
Additionally, garden mulch prevents surface soil erosion by rain, wind and temperature changes. Finally, mulch installation enhances the aesthetic appeal of a low maintenance garden bed. As a result, the mulch provides a uniform and tidy appearance that compliments the colour and texture of your plants.
Yard Busters offers a variety of wood mulches for your low maintenance garden. Our mulch installation goes great with our sod installation service.

Measuring your Garden bed
First, with a tape measure, begin finding the length and width of the landscape bed. Thereafter, multiply these dimensions to calculate the square footage of the garden bed. In case you do not have a tape measure, then try placing one foot in front of the other.
For irregular shapes, divide the garden into smaller sections, measure each section, then add the areas together. Indeed, by taking accurate measures, it will help us plan a lot for your installation project. Moreover, we can quickly prepare a price and get you on our schedule.

HOW THICK SHOULD IT BE
In an existing landscape bed, a two-inch top-up (5 cm) is typically enough mulch. However, if the garden is severely deficient, then more mulch will be needed. Therefore, every new mulch installation should receive a minimum depth of 3.5 inches.
SHREDDED VS CHUNKY
All shredded mulch is typically similar in size. However, Montane and Acreage mulch are the two exceptions, and need a thicker application. Nevertheless, if a mulch bed has less than a 3.5-inch depth, sadly it will not receive the desired benefits.
On the other hand, and this is non-negotiable, large chunky nuggets require a minimum 5-inch-thick layer. A thicker nugget depth considers that the mulch bed may become disturbed. As a result, a disturbed mulch bed will leave soil exposed to the open air. But most important, a re-enforced sublayer of paper or geo textile fabric must be used under bark nuggets.
